Sony Xperia Acro S LT26W Review

Sony Xperia Acro S LT26W is one of the high-end android smartphone released by Sony in 2012. Sony Xperia Acro S powered by dual core 1.5 Ghz CPU, Adreno 220 GPU, and 1 GB of RAM. Xperia Acro S not only has powerful hardware inside, but also has waterproof and dustproof features. Sony Xperia Acro S also known as Xperia Acro HD in japan. In this article we’re going to see the performance of Sony Xperia Acro S.

Design

Sony Xperia Acro S is not a small phone so it won’t fit on your little pocket, the dimension are just too big. Xperia Acro S measures 126 mm of height, 66 mm of width, and 11.9 mm of thickness. Besides the big dimension, Sony Xperia Acro S also feels quite heavy(147 grams).

Just like other high-end phones from Sony, Xperia Acro S also comes with unibody design, that means you can’t open the back-cover, to change the battery for example. So how do i put the SIM card? There is a SIM card slot on the left side of Xperia Acro S, you can put it there.

There are several slots/ports around Xperia Acro S and each slot/port has a cover. That’s explain why this phone is waterproof (besides the seals that’s protect the circuit board inside). You can find the micro USB port, 3.5 mm audio port, and the micro HDMI port on the top side of the phone.

For the SIM card, Xperia Acro S is using normal size SIM card. I personally prefer the normal size SIM card, but most of high-end phones are using micro SIM card.

Despite the “big and fat” size, Xperia Acro S still looking beautiful and elegant. Overall, the design of Sony Xperia Acro S is very good, big and beautiful. Acro S also comes with interesting colour selection, pink (girls will love this), black, and white.

Display

Sony Xperia Acro S has a 4.3 inches touchscreen display, the resolution of this screen is 1280 x 720 pixels (HD 720p resolution). I must say the screen is really good, very bright. Even if you take it outside on a daylight, the screen still looks very bright.

Some people say that the viewing angle of the screen are bad, but for me it’s not a big deal, i always look straight forward anyway. The pixel density is 342 ppi, so i think the viewing angle should be good enough for most people.

Sony Xperia Acro S is a waterproof phone, and when it gets wet, the touchscreen display still works quite well, thanks to the “wet finger tracking” feature. So basically you still be able to use the phone even on the water, amazing stuff.

Sony Xperia Acro S comes with android ICS 4.0.4 right out of the box, with possible upgrade to android jelly beans in the future. Along with the ICS there’s also Timescape user interface, the UI looks same as other Sony phones, nothing special.

Thanks to the powerful hardware, navigating the menu on Xperia Acro S is very smooth, no lag at all. The ICS performs well on the Xperia Acro S, i don’t see any bug, everything looks normal.

Inside we got Walkman application for music playback. There’s also xLoud feature which makes the sound louder, you could enable or disable the xLoud feature from the menu setting.

There’s also TrackID application which enables you to get information about music that’s currently being play. It’s the same concept as Shazam application.

Camera

Sony Xperia Acro S has amazing camera on the back, 12.1 mega pixels with LED flash, autofocus. This is not ordinary camera, the camera equipped with Sony’s Exmor™ R for mobile CMOS sensor, means the camera is really good.

The 12 mega pixels camera can zoom up to 16 times (16x digital zoom). The photo quality are just amazing, as well as the video recording. The rear camera of Xperia Acro S capable of recording HD 1080p videos at 30 frame per seconds.

Not only that, the front facing camera also capable of recording 720p videos at 30 frame per seconds, even though the front facing camera is only 1.3 mega pixels. But it should be enough to do video chat/video calls/skype.

Conclusion

Sony Xperia Acro S is really a good phone, great hardware performance and great durability (waterproof, dustproof). Even though Xperia Acro S is not tough as Xperia Go, Xperia Go is IP-67 certified, while Acro S is IP-57 certified phone.

If you need high-end phone that has HD capability, excellent performance, great camera and also can be operate underwater, Xperia Acro S is the answer. This phone is definitely for people who love to swim.

As i write this article, Sony Xperia Acro S is the only smartphone (high-end) that has water resistant feature. There’s also Xperia Go, but it’s not consider as high-end phone, the hardware on Xperia Go are less powerful than Xperia Acro S.

acro HD is the japanese version of acro s
acro HD launch before acro s and still running gingerbread OS
so acro s is better than acro HD, but basically it’s the same phone.
