Samsung Galaxy Core GT-I8262 Review

Samsung Galaxy Core Review

Samsung Galaxy Core is another budget friendly android smartphone released on may 2013. Samsung Galaxy Core available in two version single SIM card (GT-I8260) and dual SIM card (GT-I8262), and in this article i’m going to review the dual SIM version Galaxy Core GT-I8262.

Design

Samsung galaxy core is larger compared to galaxy ace 3, but galaxy core is actually slimmer and heavier than galaxy ace 3. Except the size and dimension, the physical appearance of both phones are identical. Like most samsung’s smartphones galaxy core also made of plastics with silver like bezel around it.

Samsung Galaxy Core GT-I8262
Height 129.3 mm
Width 67.6 mm
Thickness 9 mm
Weight 124 grams

Display

Samsung galaxy core comes with 4.3 inches display which little bit larger than galaxy ace 3 (4.0 inches). Despite that, the screen resolution are same for both phones. Bigger display but same resolution makes the pixel density is lower on galaxy core, 217 ppi compared with 233 ppi on galaxy ace 3. But in real life you can’t really see the difference.

Screen size 4.3 inches
Screen type TFT LCD
Screen resolution 480 x 800 pixels
Pixel density 217 ppi

Hardware

For the hardware samsung galaxy core powered by 1.2 Ghz dual core CPU, snapdragon S4 play chipset, Adreno 203 GPU and 1 GB of RAM. Compared with galaxy ace 3 (3G version) the performance of galaxy core is pretty much the same or maybe less.

You can play the latest game with this phone, no doubt about that. In fact, Asphalt 8 airbone and Fifa 14 are running smooth on this phone. And you should be able to play HD movie too with galaxy core. The hardware specs of samsung galaxy core is pretty good for mid-range device.

Samsung Galaxy Core GT-I8262
CPU Dual Core 1.2Ghz
GPU Adreno 203
Chipset Snapdragon MSM8225 S4 Play
RAM 1GB
ROM (storage) 8GB (4.75GB user available)

Software

Samsung galaxy core comes with android jelly bean 4.1.2 right out of box, not the latest android since kitkat is already around. But hey, this phone was released on may 2013 which jelly bean is the latest at that time. And it’s not certain that galaxy core will get kitkat upgrade in the future. So if you buy this phone now you might stuck with jelly bean (official). But of course someone somewhere will eventually create custom kitkat for galaxy core.

Anyway, galaxy core comes with several installed software/apps such as S-voice, S-planner, chrome, video player, music player, voice recorder, memo, chatON, etc. Motion feature also available on galaxy core such as smart alert, shake to update, and turn over to mute/pause. Smartstay feature also available on this phone. And just like galaxy fame and galaxy ace 3, galaxy core also support native video call (video call without app).

Camera

Samsung galaxy core equipped with 5 mega pixels camera on the back with LED flash and 0.3 mega pixels (VGA) camera on the front for video calling. The image quality of the 5 mega pixels camera is quite good, but unfortunately it cannot record HD video, it can only record VGA resolution video. And just like other samsung’s phones, galaxy core also lack of dedicated camera button.

Samsung Galaxy Core GT-I8262
Rear camera 5 mega pixels
LED flash yes
Video record VGA at 30 fps (rear camera)
Front camera yes

Benchmark

So here’s the benchmark score of samsung galaxy core, the results is little bit disappointing, because galaxy core score less in every benchmark compared with galaxy ace 3 (3G version).

Samsung Galaxy Core GT-I8262
Antutu Benchmark 8455 points
Quadrant Standard Benchmark 3082 points
Nenamark 2 Benchmark 32.8 fps

Conclusion

If you really need larger screen and dual SIM card then you should buy samsung galaxy core GT-I8262, but if not i suggest you buy samsung galaxy ace 3 (3G single SIM version) because it has better hardware performance, better for gaming and can do HD video record too, plus it’s cheaper. But if you really smart then go buy motorola moto G. Be a smart buyer :)
