Motorola Fire XT530 Review

Motorola Fire XT530 is an entry level android phone from Motorola, equipped with 3.5 inches screen, 800 Mhz processor, Adreno 200 graphics, 512 Mb of RAM. We’re going to review Motorola Fire XT530 here and find out the performance of this budget android phone.

Design

Motorola Fire XT530 has curvy shape design, really nice, doesn’t look like a cheap phone. On the front you can see the 3.5 inches screen and also VGA resolution camera. Below the screen, there’s four android touch-sensitive buttons; setting, home, back, and find button. And below the sensitive buttons, there’s a microphone and next to it there’s a Motorola label.

On the back, there’s a 5 mega pixels camera along with the LED flash. Motorola Fire XT530 is using plastic materials, but for the back cover is coated with rubber. Motorola Fire XT530 measures 114 mm height, 62 mm width, and 12 mm of thickness.

With 12 mm of thickness, Motorola Fire XT530 is definitely not a slim phone. But surprisingly, the weight of Motorola Fire XT530 is only 84.3 grams. Motorola Fire XT530 is quite light even though it’s not slim.

Overall, the design of Motorola Fire XT530 is really good, feels elegant even though this is a budget android phone. It’s also very light considering the dimension is quite large and not really a slim smartphone.

Display

The display screen probably one of the weakness of this phone. The 3.5 inches screen of Motorola Fire XT530 is not very bright. The pixel density is only 165 ppi and the resolution are 320 x 480 pixels. But this not-so-bright screen makes the battery last longer, so it’s also becomes the advantage of this phone.

Hardware

Motorola Fire XT530 powered by single core qualcomm snapdragon CPU. The speed of this CPU is 800 mhz. For graphics, Motorola Fire XT530 using Adreno 200 GPU. Combination of single core snapdragon CPU and Adreno 200 GPU are quite popular for entry level android smartphone.

Motorola Fire XT530 equipped with 512 Mb of RAM and 512 Mb of internal memory (ROM). With these hardware combination, i believe that Motorola Fire XT530 capable of running standard android application smoothly, but not for HD games and HD videos.

Software

Motorola Fire XT530 running android gingerbread 2.3.4 right out of the box. Motorola Fire XT530 is a 2011 phone, so it’s okay if it still running gingerbread. Anyway this is a low-end android phone, gingerbread OS should be fine.

Along with the gingerbread, Motorola Fire XT530 also comes with Moto Switch UI. This is a very unique UI, where you can select 4 different profiles based on your mood. Each profile has different look and feel.

The web browser on Motorola Fire XT530 equipped with flash player, so opening web pages with flash content would not be a problem. It’s also compatible with HTML 5. You can open up to 8 tabs on this web browser.

Motorola Fire XT530 has network connection HSDPA 7.2 Mbps and you can share the internet connection (it’s called wifi tethering), up to 5 devices can connect and use the internet. You can also use the bluetooth connection to share data with other devices.

Motorola Fire XT530 has front facing camera for video calls. Android 2.3 doesn’t support native 3G video calls, but you can use software like Qik video connect or Skype. And this two software are included in the package.

Camera

Motorola Fire XT530 has 5 mega pixels (2592 x 1936 pixels) camera on the back. This back camera equipped with LED flash, autofocus, and geo tagging. 5 mega pixels camera with flash is something that we won’t find on a budget android phone. So the camera is really the key point of Motorola Fire XT530.

The photo quality of Motorola Fire XT530 is really good, very sharp and detail. The camera also capable of recording video VGA resolution (480p) at 24 frame per second. The quality of the video record also quite nice.

Benchmark

Since the hardware (CPU,GPU) on Motorola Fire XT530 not so powerful, the benchmark score also shows very low points. Motorola Fire XT530 score 1556 points on antutu benchmark and 588 points on quadrant standard benchmark.

Motorola Fire XT530
Antutu Benchmark 1556 points
Quadrant Standard Benchmark 588 points

Conclusion

The camera on Motorola Fire XT530 is definitely the advantage of this phone. On a budget phone, you won’t get a 5 mega pixels camera with LED flash on the back plus a front facing camera. You won’t find this on samsung galaxy young, galaxy pocket, sony xperia tipo, LG optimus L3 and other cheap android phones.

If you’re looking for entry level android phone that has great camera on it, you definitely should choose Motorola Fire XT530. The hardware may not be powerful and the OS maybe old (it’s gingerbread) but the camera is quite good for budget phone.

Besides the camera, other thing that really good on this phone is the battery. Motorola Fire XT530 comes with 1540 mAh Li-ion battery. Compared with other phones, this battery can last longer. At normal usage the battery can last until 2 days.
