LG Optimus L7 P705 Review

LG Optimus L7 P705 Review

LG Optimus L7 first introduced on february 2012, featured a 4.3 inches screen, android 4.0 ICS, and stylish design. Based on the price, LG optimus L7 is below the high-end phones like LG optimus 4x HD but above the low-end like LG optimus L3. In this article we’re going to review LG optimus L7 and see the performance, what are the advantage and the weakness of this android phone.

The one that we have here is the LG optimus L7 P705, there’s also LG optimus L7 P700 which is for european market. The difference between the P705 and the P700 is that on P700 have onboard NFC antenna (you can see it if you open the back cover). The P705 doesn’t have NFC feature. Other than that, everything else is the same for P700 and P705. So this review also apply to LG optimus L7 P700.

Design

LG optimus L7 comes with square candybar design with silver trim layer on each side, just like other LG L-series. The design of LG optimus L7 is very elegant, when you holding it in your hands, feels like a high-end android phone.

Besides the square design, one thing that makes LG optimus L7 feels like a high-end smartphone is the 4.3 inches IPS LCD screen. This 4.3 inches screen already equipped with corning gorilla glass for scratch protection.

On the top of the screen, left side of the LG logo you will find front facing camera. This camera have VGA resolution (640 x 480 pixels). On the bottom of the screen you can see the physical home button and two sensitive buttons, the back and menu button.

The power button and the 3.5 mm audio port is located on the top side of the phone. The volume button is on the left side of the phone, and the charger port you can find on the bottom area of the phone.

On the back of LG optimus L7, you will find the main camera equipped with LED flash for low light photo shooting. This camera have 5 mega pixels resolution (2592 x 1944 pixels).

Hardware

The Central Processing Unit or CPU of LG optimus L7 is a cortex A5 qualcomm snapdragon, speed 1 Ghz. This is a single core processor, snapdragon S1. With price tag $317 USD, i think that the CPU should be dual core or at least the speed is 1.4 Ghz if single core.

For graphics LG optimus L7 equipped with adreno 200 GPU. Adreno 200 is not so powerful, many low-end/budget android phones uses this GPU. Again, i think for that price tag, LG optimus should have better GPU.

LG optimus L7 have 512 MB of RAM and 4 GB of internal storage (ROM). LG optimus L7 also have microSD slot so you can add extra storage up to 32 GB.

Here’s hardware comparison LG optimus L7 versus HTC one V.

Software

LG optimus L7 comes with android 4.0.3 ice cream sandwich operating system and LG optimus 3.0 UI. honestly, the LG optimus 3.0 UI looks like a gingerbread user interface.

The one that we have here LG optimus L7 P705 comes with installed polaris office software full version.

LG optimus L7 also support DLNA SmartShare, so you can share content on your phone to other compatible devices using the wifi.

If you have the P700 model, you can also use NFC feature with LG Tag+ system. Unfortunately for P705 model the NFC feature is not exist.

Camera

The 5 mega pixels camera on LG optimus L7 is not very good specially for indoor photo shoot. Even though this camera already equipped with LED flash and autofocus, for indoor and low light photo shooting, the results was not good.

For video recording, this camera can only record VGA (640 x 480) resolution video at 30 frame per seconds. For $300 dollar phone i was expecting at least 720p HD video recording.

Benchmark

Here’s the benchmark results for LG optimus L7 P705

LG Optimus L7 P705
Antutu Benchmark 2955 points
Quadrant Standard Benchmark 1951 points
Nenamark 1 Benchmark 46.0 fps
Nenamark 2 Benchmark 19.3 fps

From antutu benchmark result, LG optimus L7 is better than Samsung galaxy S and below the Samsung Google Nexus S. And from the quadrant standard benchmark result, shows that LG optimus L7 is better than HTC Desire HD.

Conclusion

LG optimus L7 is a good smartphone in terms of design, it looks elegant and stylish. But for the performance is the opposite, LG optimus L7 performs not very good since the hardware is not so powerful. The back camera also not so good, both photo and video result are mediocre.

Besides the luxurious design and the big screen 4.3 inches, the only good thing about this phone is the use of android 4.0.3 ICS and the LG optimus 3.0 user interface. With price around $300 USD, you might be consider other phone such as HTC one V.
