The LG Optimus 4X HD P880 is a quad core high-end android smartphone from LG. LG Optimus 4X HD P880 is released by LG in order to compete with other quad core android smartphone like Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC one X.

Compared to Samsung galaxy S3 and HTC one X, LG Optimus 4X HD is the cheapest quad core android smartphone. But what about the performance? what are the advantages of this phone and what are the weakness? is it worth to buy? this review shall answer those questions.

LG Optimus 4X HD have square design instead of curve shape like other quad core smartphones, samsung galaxy s3 and HTC one X. This square design looks luxurious and elegant. On each sides of LG Optimus 4X HD there are two silver layer/bezel which called prism-edged. The prism-edged adds luxurious feel to the phone, plus it also gives the phone more grip.

LG Optimus 4X HD is using plastic materials for the back cover in order to make the phone light weight. When you holding LG Optimus 4X HD in your hands, it does feels like expensive phone, even though this phone using plastic materials.

Talking about the dimension, LG Optimus 4X HD measures 132.4 mm long, 68.1 mm wide, and the thickness is about 8.9 mm. While the weight is only 133 grams (including the battery). LG Optimus 4X HD is really slim and light smartphone.

For the display, LG Optimus 4X HD is using HD-IPS LCD screen instead of AMOLED. The viewing angles of this display are very good. The colours that produced by HD-IPS LCD are rich, sharp and detail. I think the display quality of LG Optimus 4X HD are equal against competitors like Samsung Galaxy S3 and HTC one X.

The screen resolution of LG Optimus 4X HD are 1280 x 720 pixels and the pixel density is 312 ppi. The screen is very bright, even on a daylight and outdoor use. You can also set the auto-brightness feature which will detect the lighting condition and determine level of brightness that suit to that condition.

LG Optimus 4X HD powered by cortex-A9 quad core processors, speed 1.5 Ghz. Besides the four cores, LG Optimus 4X HD also have one additional core, so actually there are five cores on LG Optimus 4X HD.

This extra core is intended to keep the power consumption low. Probably how it works is this extra core could decided how many core will be use in order to do certain task. So it’s not every time the four cores are active.

LG Optimus 4X HD is using Nvidia Tegra 3 chipset and of course Nvidia graphics. The graphics of LG Optimus 4X HD is Nvidia ultra-low power (ULP) geforce GPU. This GPU capable of playing HD 1080p quality content without any lag.

LG Optimus 4X HD equipped with 1 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal memory (ROM). If this 16 GB ROM is not enough, you can add extra storage using the micro SD slot up to 32 GB. With this hardware combination i believe that playing HD games, HD videos, or even just browse the web on LG Optimus 4X HD will be very smooth.

But what about the power consumption? don’t worry because LG Optimus 4X HD equipped with quite large battery. The battery capacity on LG Optimus 4X HD is 2150 mAh (Li-ion battery). This battery have Si0+ technology which could supply 6% more power than regular Li-ion battery.

LG Optimus 4X HD comes with android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) operating system. I was expecting android 4.1 Jelly Bean, but an ICS should do fine. For user interface it comes with LG Optimus 3.0 UI. It’s really nice UI, looks fresh and beautiful.

For the lockscreen, you can do swipe to any direction to unlock the phone. There will be two circle, and all you have to do is drag the inner circle to the other circle and the screen will be unlocked.

Since the hardware of LG Optimus 4X HD is so powerful, there’s no problem when we playback 1080p videos. The video player on LG Optimus 4X HD support many format such as DivX, XviD, MKV, MP4, MOV, etc. The video player also support subtitle file.

The main camera (rear camera) of LG Optimus 4X HD is 8 mega pixels equipped with LED flash and autofocus. This 8 mega pixels camera also have geo-tagging, face detection, touch focus, and image stabilization features.

The photo result of this 8 mega pixels camera was very good, even in low lighting situation the photo result still good thanks to the LED flash.

For video recording, LG Optimus 4X HD capable of recording 1080p (full HD) resolution videos at 30 frame per second. You can also simultaneously take photos while shooting a video. The video result also very good.

The camera on LG Optimus 4X HD have many features, you can do many things with the back camera. But there’s one unique feature that we don’t find on other smartphone, the time catch shot feature.

Using the time catch shot, the phone automatically save several photos (besides the main photo) before the user press the shutter button. The idea is that you won’t lose any moment when taking pictures.

Despite the lowest benchmark score against other super smartphones (samsung galaxy S3 and HTC one X) the LG Optimus 4X offers stylish design and cheaper price. Overall performance LG Optimus 4X HD is quite good.
