LG Nexus 4 is currently the latest Nexus smartphone available on the market. Comes with the latest android operating system (Jelly Bean 4.2.1) and also the latest hardware (quad core Snapdragon S4, Adreno 320, 2GB of RAM), is it worth to buy LG Nexus 4? Find the answer here on this review.
The design of LG Nexus 4 E960 feels more elegant and premium compared with the previous Nexus phone, Samsung Galaxy Nexus. Unlike Galaxy Nexus which entirely made from plastic materials, LG Nexus 4 comes with luxurious materials, the corning gorilla glass not only in the front, but also on the back. So the back panel of LG Nexus 4 is made from glass, just like iphone 4S.
From the side, LG Nexus 4 has similarity with Galaxy Nexus, which is curve shape from top to bottom. This curvy shape gives more grip to the phone, but i can say that it’s more comfortable holding Galaxy Nexus than LG Nexus 4, because unlike Galaxy Nexus, LG Nexus 4 has less curve shape.

LG Nexus 4 comes with true HD IPS plus display, and covered with corning gorilla glass 2 for screen protections. Note that LG Nexus 4 not only has one gorilla glass but two, because the back panel also made from gorilla glass. So LG Nexus 4 has two corning gorilla glass 2, one in front and one in the back.
Talk about display quality, the display on LG Nexus 4 is brighter and sharper than Samsung Galaxy Nexus. But for black level, contrast, and saturation are not good as Galaxy Nexus, because Galaxy Nexus has super AMOLED display.
But, compared with Galaxy Nexus, the display of LG Nexus 4 has better viewing angle, and the performance under direct sun light also little bit better. Thanks to the zero-gap technology, the display of LG Nexus 4 also become more live than the predecessor.

LG Nexus 4 has very powerful hardware inside, quad core krait processors, adreno 320 graphics, and 2GB of RAM. The hardware on LG Nexus 4 is a lot more powerful than the predecessor Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
Even compared with other super smartphone like Galaxy S3, LG Nexus 4 still more superior. There’s no doubt about the performance of this super smartphone, playing HD movie or HD games would be very smooth.
Just like the predecessor, LG Nexus 4 also lack of micro SD slot, but luckily LG Nexus 4 has 16 GB of internal storage. I think 16 GB should be enough to store apps and files (videos, photos, documents).

LG Nexus 4 comes with android 4.2.1 jelly bean right out of the box, which is currently the latest android operating system. And because this is a Nexus device, so there’s no customization on the user interface, pure jelly bean user interface.
All Nexus devices comes with standard/plain user interface without any changes from the manufacture. This what people usually refer to “vanilla” or “plain” operating system, where everything is standard without any modifications.
Not only the UI that’s standard/default jelly bean 4.2.1, but also the installed software is very standard, there’s no special features (outside jelly bean original features) that’s been add by LG.
Jelly bean 4.2.1 has three page of lockscreen, in the center is the standard lockscreen with clock on the top, swipe to the left you can add widgets like: calendar, digital watch, gmail, google+, and sms (text message). If you swipe to the right, it will take you directly to the camera menu.
On the notification bar, you will see the quick toogle menu, which enables you to get quick access to wifi, bluetooth, brightness level, battery level, phone settings, emergency calls, and flight mode.
On the main application drawer, you can see two tab, apps and widgets. There’s also quick access to google play store on the right side. The apps icons are lineup horizontally (5×5), the icons are in alphabetical order and cannot be arranged manually.
Like i said before, everything on LG Nexus 4 is standard, including the movie player software. LG Nexus 4 capable of playback full-HD videos 1080p, but the default movie player could only open mp4 format.
So you have to get third party movie player on google play if you want to play more format such as mkv, avi, mov, etc. I recommend you to install MX Player, it’s a very good movie player with support for subtitle.
LG Nexus 4 equipped with 8 mega pixels camera on the back and 1.3 mega pixels camera in the front. I was expecting 12 mega pixels camera on this Nexus phone, because i think 8 mega pixels camera is too mainstream.
I must say the photo quality on LG Nexus 4 is very good compared with other LG’s high-end smartphones. But when we compared with other brands such as iphone5 or Samsung Galaxy S3, LG Nexus 4 still slightly below them.
The 8 mega pixels camera has panorama and photo sphere features. Photo sphere mode is different from panorama mode, it has larger area that can be captured.
Using panorama mode, you can only capture from right to left (vice versa), but with photo sphere mode you can also capture up and down too, the result is very similar with google street view.
For video record, LG Nexus 4 capable of recording 1080p video at 30 frame per seconds, and the video format is mp4. The video result was not so sharp due to the lower bitrate (around 10000 kbps), probably this is a trick to save storage, since this phone doesn’t have micro sd slot.

|Front camera||1.3 mega pixels|
Since LG Nexus 4 has very powerful hardware inside, the benchmark also shows very good result. LG Nexus 4 manages to score 15929 points on the latest antutu benchmark and 4699 points on quadrant standard benchmark.
While for graphics benchmark, LG Nexus 4 gets 58.9 frame per seconds on Nenamark 2 benchmark. It’s little bit disappointing, i was expecting adreno 320 could score at least 60 fps. For web browsing performance, LG Nexus 4 gets 1939.6 ms on SunSpider benchmark.

LG Nexus 4 is a super smartphone, comes with the latest hardware specs, latest OS, and the price range not very high compared with other high-end phones, this could be a good alternative for high-end smartphones.
There has been many improvement over the previous Nexus, such as better build quality, better CPU (quad core), better GPU (adreno 320), and bigger RAM (2GB).
The fact that not many smartphones comes with 2GB of RAM (not even iphone5 or Galaxy S3), as far as i know, only Samsung Galaxy Note 2 N7100 that offer the same RAM capacity.
Other benefit of Nexus device, is that the phone will get priority updates, means that when the next android comes, this phone will certainly get the new OS.
But the bad thing is that for some people the user interface on LG Nexus 4 could be so boring, because there’s no customization on the UI. The UI is standard jelly bean without any modification from LG.
