LG G Pro Lite Dual D686 Review

Back in november 2013 LG released a 5.5 inches MTK based phablet (phone-tablet), the LG G pro lite. LG G pro lite has a built in stylus pen and a bunch of cool features such as knockON, quick remote, guest mode, qslide, etc.

LG G pro lite available in two version single SIM and dual SIM, and like other LG smartphones LG G pro lite has several variant with different code name which will confuse some people.

Here’s some of LG G pro lite variant that i know :

  • LG G Pro lite D686 (dual SIM)
  • LG G Pro lite D685 (dual SIM)
  • LG G Pro lite D680 (single SIM)
  • LG G Pro lite D682 (single SIM)

Besides the code name and SIM type, everything else is the same, so this review should apply to other variant of LG G pro lite, not only the D686.

Design

LG G pro lite is a stylish phablet despite it’s made entirely from plastic materials. LG G pro lite is huge phone, but when you hold it in your hands, this phone feels slim and light.

LG G pro lite has a built in stylus pen located at the top right of the phone, unlike samsung galaxy note which usually located at the bottom of the phone.

LG G pro lite dual has 4 capacitive buttons at the bottom of the screen, the back, home, menu, and a SIM card selector button. While the single SIM version only have 3 buttons, back, home and menu button.

Display

LG G pro lite only has 5.5 inches IPS LCD display but the screen resolution is only qHD 540 x 960 pixels. And the pixel density of LG G pro lite is only a half of optimus G pro (E980) pixel density which is 200 ppi.

But despite all that, the reality is the screen of LG G pro lite looks good and bright, colors also good. Unfortunately there is no auto brightness feature on LG G pro lite so you have to manually adjust the brightness setting.

For indoor use, you can set the brightness to zero (0%) and still be able to see everything bright enough. But for outdoor day light use, you need to increase the brightness to maximum (100%).

Screen type IPS LCD
Screen resolution 540 x 960 pixels
Pixel density 200 ppi

Hardware

When it comes to hardware specs, there is nothing fancy about LG G pro lite, you can find the same specs on cheaper android smartphones. Anyway LG G pro lite comes with 1Ghz dual core CPU, powerVR SGX531 GPU, mediatek chipset and a 1GB of RAM.

LG G pro lite has 8GB of internal storage with only 4.67GB available to user, the rest of it will be use by the operating system and built-in software.

CPU Dual Core 1Ghz
GPU PowerVR SGX531
Chipset Mediatek MT6577
RAM 1GB
ROM (storage) 8GB (4.67GB user available)

Software

LG G pro lite comes with android jelly bean 4.1.2 right out of the box combined with LG’s optimus UI 3.0, by the time i write this article there is a rumors that says LG G pro lite will get kitkat upgrade.

That would be great if LG G pro lite gets official android kitkat upgrade, even with the current jelly bean i rarely experience lag or sluggishness, imagine what kitkat can do.

Anyway, inside the jelly bean you will get many cool features such as knockON, guest mode, smart share (this one is super cool feature), quick remote, quick memo, quick translator, qslide, cheese shutter (for the camera).

LG G pro lite is all about features, forget the low specs hardware, the main attraction/advantage of this phone is the features. These features doesn’t exist on the competitors such as sony xperia c, samsung galaxy mega or grand.

Camera

LG G pro lite equipped with 8 mega pixels camera on the back with LED flash and 1.3 mega pixels camera on the front. The rear camera is BSI type, backside iluminated sensor, i don’t know what that is but i think it’s something that makes the image looks good.

The rear camera could record HD 720p movie at 30 frame per seconds. I’m not sure about the quality though, since i rarely use smartphones to take pictures, i prefer my DSLR camera to take real picture.

LG G Pro Lite D686
Rear camera 8 mega pixels BSI
LED flash yes
Video record 720p at 30 fps (rear camera)
Front camera yes

Benchmark

Here’s the weakness of LG G pro lite, since the hardware specs is kinda low specs, the benchmark results also shows low scores compared with other phones (xperia c, galaxy mega, galaxy grand).

LG G Pro Lite D686
Antutu Benchmark 8455 points
Quadrant Standard Benchmark 3082 points
Nenamark 2 Benchmark 32.8 fps

Conclusion

Here’s some of LG G pro lite features :

  • quick remote feature, use the phone as remote control for your TV,DVD or blueray player.
  • quick memo + stylus pen, to write or draw something
  • knockOn feature, knock the screen to turn on/off
  • quick translator, use the camera to translate something
  • qslide feature, multitasking window
  • guest mode feature
  • smartshare feature
  • cheese shutter feature on the camera

Like i said LG G pro lite is all about features, buy this phone because of the features forget about the low hardware specs, you still can play the latest game using this phone. But if hardware specs is everything for you then you should buy Xperia C or Galaxy Mega.
